Many hands made light work recently when a team of NOMADS volunteered their time to help with refurbishing and repair projects at Lake Junaluska.

Working four days a week for three weeks, the group repaired footbridges, trash can corrals and picnic tables; refinished rocking chairs; worked in the Lake Junaluska greenhouse; traced circuits and labeled outlets; painted and much more.

Michael Huber, general manager of Lake Junaluska, said the NOMADS, who have volunteered their time at Lake Junaluska before, consistently provide an invaluable service with their skills and dedication to helping others.

“Lake Junaluska loves the NOMADS! We are grateful for their outstanding efforts and quality work,” Huber said. “Their heart for ministry and genuine kind spirit make a significant contribution to our mission of being a place of Christian hospitality where lives are transformed through renewal of soul, mind and body.”

The 11 volunteers lived in their respective RVs at the Lake Junaluska Campground during their assignment. They came from Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and West Virginia.

Jennifer Therkilsen-Gebhard, a team leader from Minnesota, said the opportunity to stay at a beautiful location, make new friends and help a non-profit organization such as Lake Junaluska made the experience truly a labor of love.

“We do something and we feel good about it. It’s a win-win,” she said.
