Peace Conference returns with new strategies for a changing world

Jan. 30, 2026

“Disarming Hatred” is the theme of the upcoming Peace Conference set for March 13-15 at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center.

For both clergy and laity, the Peace Conference offers the opportunity for discussion, fellowship and learning with renowned peacebuilders.

“We will learn from front-line peace practitioners how to put peace into action through hands-on workshop leaders who will teach us about skills, practices, and organizing that can heal and restore our communities,” said Beth Crissman, superintendent of the Uwharrie District of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and director of Peace Building Ministries for the conference. She is the author of five books, including the “Purple Church Initiative: Conversations Across the Aisles” and “Longing to Belong.”

“In a time where the news around our nation and globe is filled with hatred, violence, and growing polarization, this year’s Peace Conference will address disarming hatred,” Crissman said. “These three days of inspiring worship, plenary speakers, and workshops led by hands-on peace practitioners will equip and empower attendees to act locally and organize regionally and nationally by disarming hatred at every level and become agents of peace wherever they are.”
