Join us by the campfire on Thursday, July 23, at 8 p.m. for storytelling and music that will leave you laughing with foot-tapping fun. Enjoy roasting marshmallows, complete with all the fixings for S’mores. The fire pit is located just below Shackford Hall.
About our storyteller:

Kathy Gordon is a storyteller from the mountains of Western North Carolina, where she was raised in Franklin by parents who grew up in the region. Her childhood was filled with mountain traditions, wonderful cooking, laughter and the stories that shape a place and its people. After college, Kathy moved to Asheville to teach for one year—but stayed for a 35-year career with Asheville City Schools. She continues to call Asheville home.
Kathy’s stories are woven from a lifetime of experiences, from growing up in the mountains and raising a family to her years as an educator in Asheville. With warmth, humor and a deep love for the mountains around her, she shares stories that celebrate the people, places and memories that make Western North Carolina special.
What to Bring
- Seating: While we have some seating available, it’s limited! We highly recommend bringing your own chair to ensure you’re comfy.
- Layer Up: Pack a light jacket, sweatshirt or sweater. Mountain evenings can get quite chilly after sunset.
- Lighting: Grab a flashlight to help you navigate safely once the event concludes after dark.
See you by the fire!
