Join us by the campfire on Thursday, July 30, at 8 p.m. with Chris Hughes for storytelling and music that will leave you laughing with foot-tapping fun. We end the evening with marshmallow roasting and new friends. The fire pit is located just below Shackford Hall.
About our storyteller:

Chris Hughes is no stranger to Lake Junaluska. During his 42-year career as a United Methodist pastor Dr. Hughes served for 12 years including a stint as seasonal director of youth weeks and weekends and one as the full-time director of jurisdictional age-level programs. His wife Gloria and friends Ed and Kathleen Kilbourne provided 20 years of Confirmation retreats in Shackford Hall. His signature song is “Teach Me How to Pray” and he has authored several books. Chris is finding new avenues of offering music and stories in the Winston Salem (NC) area.
What to Bring
- Seating: While we have some seating available, it’s limited! We highly recommend bringing your own chair to ensure you’re comfy.
- Snacks and Drinks: Feel free to pack your own favorite snacks and beverages to enjoy during the performance.
- Layer Up: Pack a light jacket, sweatshirt or sweater. Mountain evenings can get quite chilly after sunset.
- Lighting: Grab a flashlight to help you navigate safely once the event concludes after dark.
See you by the fire!
