Lake Junaluska will celebrate Easter Sunday, April 5, with its annual Easter Sunrise Service at the Amphitheater below the Cross.
The sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m. and is open to the public for in-person worship. Parking is at Lambuth Inn. Easter breakfast and lunch buffets will also be available for purchase following the service.
The Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti will serve as guest preacher. His sermon, “See Jesus,” is from the Scripture: Matthew 28:1-10. Music will be provided by Biltmore Brass Quintet.
Conforti said he is eager to preach at the outdoor service because of the beauty surrounding Lake Junaluska. “The mountains, the lake, the Cross – there’s so much to see at Lake Junaluska. And at the Easter Sunrise Service, we will celebrate who was first seen early that morning long ago,” Conforti said.
Conforti is superintendent of the Yadkin Valley District of the United Methodist Church. He holds degrees from the University of Florida, Duke Divinity School and Wesley Theological Seminary. Conforti teaches with Duke Divinity’s Advanced Course of Study. His podcast, “Object Lesson,” can be found online.
Sunrise service attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for cool mountain morning temperatures. In the event of rain, the service will be held at Memorial Chapel. Check lakejunaluska.com/easter for possible schedule changes.
Ken Howle, executive director of Lake Junaluska, extended an invitation to all to experience an Easter Sunrise Service at Lake Junaluska. “Many of our visitors make this early morning service an annual event,” Howle said. “Easter at Lake Junaluska is such a special time with the sunrise service at the amphitheater below the Cross and the trees and flowers in early bloom. It’s a beautiful time to visit the Lake and enjoy the fellowship of such a special service.”
Following the service, Lake Junaluska will host an Easter Breakfast Buffet and Easter Lunch Buffet at historic Lambuth Inn. Breakfast will be available for purchase from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and will feature scrambled eggs, hash brown casserole, smoked Gouda and cheddar grits, biscuits and sausage gravy, maple-stuffed French toast casserole and more. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged. Reservations for the breakfast buffet may be made at https://bit.ly/EasterBreakfastatLJ2026.
