Lake Junaluska will celebrate Easter Sunday, April 20, with its annual sunrise service at the amphitheater below the Cross.
The sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m. and is open to the public for in-person worship. Parking is at Lambuth Inn. Easter breakfast and lunch buffets will also be available.
The Rev. Amy Coles will preach about “The Importance of Holding onto Resurrection,” based on Luke 24:1-12. Music will be provided by Biltmore Brass. “Amidst the chaos of our culture today, I think it’s important to remember that God wins, and that resurrection is real for us as Christians, and we need to proclaim that to the world,” Coles said.
Coles serves as the assistant to Bishop Kenneth H. Carter of the Western North Carolina Conference. She has pastored churches in Trinity, High Point and Shoals. She previously served for six years as a district superintendent, including three in the Smoky Mountain District, home to Lake Junaluska.
Ken Howle, executive director of Lake Junaluska, extended an invitation to all to experience the moving service. “Easter at Lake Junaluska is such a special time with the sunrise service at the amphitheater below the Cross and the trees and flowers in early bloom,” Howle said.
Sunrise service attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for cool mountain morning temperatures. In the event of rain, the service will be held at Memorial Chapel. Check lakejunaluska.com/easter for possible schedule changes.
Following the service, Lake Junaluska will host an Easter Breakfast Buffet and Easter Lunch Buffet at historic Lambuth Inn. Breakfast will be available from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and feature eggs, ham with local honey glaze, fruit kabobs, Potatoes O’Brien hash, waffles and much more.
The lunch buffet will offer reservations between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The menu will include a variety of salads, roasted brown butter and sage chicken, slow cooked roast beef with root vegetables, Carolina greens, garlic mash potatoes with gravy, and more, plus assorted desserts.
