Registration is open for Lake Junaluska’s 2027 ENCOUNTER Winter Youth Retreats, where youth groups grow closer to God and each other in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

The two ENCOUNTER weekends will be Jan. 15-18 and Feb. 12-15 and offer youth groups programming, dynamic speakers, live music, powerful worship, real talk sessions, games, mission opportunitiesmore plus opportunities to ski and snowboard.

The theme for 2027 is #NoFilter, based on Psalm 139. Participants will consider three questions: “What images are we paying attention to?”, “In whose image were we created?” and “How are we called to live that image in the world?”

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Michael Adam Beck, currently a pastor, professor, author and thought leader in the Fresh Expressions movement.  Beck, a popular youth speaker, recently spoke at IGNITE 2025: A Celebration of Creativity & Connection, the youth conference for New Jersey and New York United Methodist Church in Wildwood, New Jersey.

Beck serves as the co-pastor of Wildwood UMC, St. Marks UMC, and Compassion UMC all in Florida with his wife, Jill, where they direct addiction recovery programs, a jail ministry, a food pantry, an interracial unity movement, and house a faith-based inpatient treatment center. Wildwood and St. Marks are traditional congregations and a network of 13 fresh expressions that gather in tattoo parlors, dog parks, salons, running tracks, community centers, burrito joints and digital spaces.

Both ENCOUNTER retreats offer two- and three-night options with a Sunday ski or snowboard add-on at an additional cost. The two-night option is $193 per person and includes lodging, meals and programming. The three-night option is $273 and includes lodging, meals and programming.

Groups that pay their deposit by Saturday, Nov. 1 will receive one free chaperone sleeping room for every 10 youth reservations.
