Art in the Gardens at Lake Junaluska brings a unique cultural experience to Haywood County residents and visitors

March 16, 2023

Lake Junaluska’s Artists in Residence invite you to visit “Art in the Gardens,” Sunday, April 2 through Tuesday, May 15. The event will feature works by Lake Junaluska community artists displayed in several of the 16 gardens nestled throughout the grounds.

Paintings, environmental art, mobiles, sculptures and glass art will all be exhibited and will be available for sale.

Artists in Residence was launched in 2019 and has grown to over 25 members. The organization works to support Lake Junaluska’s strategic vision of providing a variety of arts that touch the human spirit through incorporating visual arts more fully into the Lake Junaluska experience.

“Art in the Gardens has been a great way to minister to our community,” says member Jody Lipscomb. “In 2020, when Covid hit, we launched ‘Art in Place,’ a special event where we displayed art outside of our homes so that people could drive by and experience it. It really sparked interest, and we’ve done it each year since then. This year, we expanded the event to include displaying our art throughout many of the Lake Junaluska gardens.”

The art show provides a unique cultural experience for visitors to the Lake. Said Melissa Tinsley, Lake Junaluska landscape manager, “I am excited to partner with local artists to create a meaningful experience for those living in Haywood County and beyond. I think Art in the Gardens will create interest and awareness for both the gardens as well as the artists.”

To learn where art will be displayed, as well as the contact information for each participating artist, guests can pick up an Art in the Gardens guide at Bethea Welcome Center, 91 N. Lakeshore Drive or email [email protected]. For more information about the gardens and places of meditation at Lake Junaluska, visit lakejunaluska.com/activities/gardens.
