Lake Junaluska hires new public works director

Carroll E. Woody Jr. is the new director of Assembly Public Works at Lake Junaluska. He began work July 31, replacing Dave Nicholson, who retired.

Woody has more than 32 years of experience in the water, construction and management fields with extensive experience in water and water-related customer service. He most recently was the maintenance and building engineer manager for The Biltmore Company.

“We appreciate Carroll Woody choosing to join our team. He has an impressive professional background and was drawn to be a part of our unique mission,” said Ken Howle, Lake Junaluska’s executive director. “As a Western North Carolina native, Carroll is well-versed in Lake Junaluska’s commitment to be an involved and inclusive community that provides the highest quality of life for our residents and guests.”

Woody also has managed capital improvement campaigns for the Biltmore Estate and the City of Asheville, and has more than 20 years of experience testing, troubleshooting, writing policies and enforcement of backflow prevention programs. He was named Manager of the Year by the City of Asheville.

“I’m very excited to be starting a new position as the Public Works Director,” Woody said. “I look forward to working with the Lake Junaluska community. Everyone I’ve met there has been very courteous to me and very professional. It’s been a welcoming environment.”

Woody received his associate degree in civil engineering from A-B Technical College in Asheville and his bachelor of science degree in engineering technology from Western Carolina University. He has North Carolina Water Certifications in Distribution A, Meter C, Backflow and Cross-Connection and Surface C.

A native of Weaverville, Woody lives in Candler with his wife, Jeanette. They are the parents of two grown children.
