Lake Junaluska won two awards recently at the United Methodist Association of Communicators Awards ceremony in Leawood, Kansas.
The 2025 UMAC Awards, a nationwide competition, were given in nine classes across 35 categories and three divisions for communication material completed between July 1, 2023, and Aug. 1, 2025. UMAC recognizes excellence in communication through an awards program for the following categories: print publications, digital publications, writing, internet communications, video production, audio, photography, visual design, publicity/advertising and media presentations.
The awards honoring Lake Junaluska are:
- Second place, Lake Junaluska staff, Discover Lake Junaluska 2025 magazine and visitor guide, Class 1 Print Publications, Special Publication Division I
- First place, Ken Howle, “Let There Be Light,” Class VII: Photography, Photojournalism Divisions 1 & 2.
Howle took the “Let There Be Light” photograph of Lake Junaluska’s iconic Cross on Friday, Sept. 27, as Hurricane Helene was leaving the area.
