Carriage Rides at Lake Junaluska

Carriage Rides, Carols and Holiday Shopping Fill Christmas at Lake Junaluska Weekend Dec. 9-11

See Lake Junaluska decorated for the holidays and enjoy carriage rides, candlelight, carols and more during Christmas at Lake Junaluska weekend December 9-11.

The grounds are aglow in lights, greenery and bows, with trees in the lobbies and wreaths in the windows. More than six dozen volunteers and staff helped transform the grounds into a winter wonderland with a nativity scene outside Memorial Chapel, lighted wire deer sculptures in the Biblical Garden and tall letters spelling “JOY” and “PEACE.”

Christmas at Lake Junaluska events begin on Saturday, Dec. 10, with Lake Junaluska Lessons and Carols at Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m. The service will be led by the Rev. Susan Giles, with music provided by Hilda Ryan and special guest guitarist Mark Shultz for a candlelit singing of “Silent Night.”

Then on Sunday, Dec. 11, horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered from noon to 3 p.m., along North Lakeshore Drive. Reservations are now open for scenic 15-minute rides on a four-passenger vis-a-vis carriage or eight-person wagonette that offer breathtaking lakeside mountain views and a unique view of the decorated Rose Walk. Carriage rides are $25 per adult and $15 per child age 11 and younger, and can be booked online at lakejunaluska.com/online-store.

Throughout the weekend, Junaluska Gifts & Grounds will be open for holiday shoppers, offering unique gifts, Christmas decor and seasonal lattes. Plus, shoppers enjoy 30 percent off holiday items and hot beverages from the coffee and smoothie bar at Junaluska Gifts & Grounds during a special Christmas at Lake Junaluska Sale from Dec. 9-11.

Guests are also invited to visit the Christmas Memories shop in historic Lambuth Inn or the Lake Junaluska Golf Course Pro Shop to pick up last-minute gifts.

Lodging guests as well as day visitors are invited to see the decorations on the Lake Junaluska grounds and Walking Trail, which is open to all with no admission charge. With Lake Junaluska’s winter lodging special – three nights for 10% off or four or more nights for 15% off, guests can enjoy a whole weekend of Christmas fun in the mountains and find the perfect Christmas tree right here in Haywood County (the same county where the U.S. Capitol Tree came from!)
