Lake Junaluska Flea Market set for June 11

The annual Lake Junaluska Flea Market will take place on Saturday, June 11, at the open-air Nanci Weldon Memorial Gym at Lake Junaluska from 8-11:30 am. Special early bird shopping is available from 7:30-8 a.m. for $5 cash. Everyone is welcome to attend.

“The flea market features fantastic items for people of all ages and unique treasures found nowhere else,” said Judy LaFountaine, co-chair of the flea market. Areas of the flea market include furniture, plants, arts and crafts, ladies’ boutique clothing, luggage, electronics, kitchen items, linens, toys, games/recreation, home décor, tools, holiday items, books and baked goods.

This year, the flea market will feature lots of bedroom furniture, particularly twin and bunk bed sets, and will have a new area for camping and sports equipment.

The event is hosted by The Junaluskans, a volunteer organization made up of people who love Lake Junaluska, and the annual flea market is the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year. Co-chair LaFountaine says that there is always great excitement and anticipation for each year’s flea market.

“In addition to helping people find items to enjoy for their homes and raise money for projects around the lake, we are able to pass on the fellowship and sense of community we enjoy here at Lake Junaluska” said LaFountaine. “Don’t forget to enjoy delicious home baked goods during or after you shop.”

Proceeds from the flea market go toward many projects that are integral to the Lake Junaluska community — maintenance of gardens such as the Rose Walk, Native Garden, Biblical Garden and Inspiration Point, the swan feeding program, the Community Chorus, Christmas decorations at the lake, Lake Junaluska cleanup programs, sponsorship of Clothes to Kids, and the monthly book review program.

For the safety and comfort of shoppers, dogs other than service animals are not allowed.
